Thelma Willett International Piano Competition and Festival (formerly UND Piano Fest) Nov. 14-16, 2025 at UND Music

The University of North Dakota is hosting an opportunity for students and teachers of piano. The Friday thru Sunday festival involves:

  • Competition open to pianists from grade 1 thru college and adults pianists.
  • Masterclasses run by distinguished guest artists and UND faculty
  • Networking with peers, alumni and professionals in an exciting festival atmosphere.

Music Rally

Music Rallies are hosted by individual local associations. It is a non-competitive event for students to receive adjudication for performance, theory, harmonization and technique.

Popplers Competition

A state performance competition for students of all ages, the Popplers Competitions is supported by Popplers Music. The Popplers Competition is held in conjunction with the NDMTA Conference.

MTNA Competitions

The NDMTA hosts the state level MTNA Competitions in October at Valley City State University. Categories and age-level information is available by following the link.

Commissioned Composer

Each year, NDMTA commissions a composer to write a piece to be premiered at the annual NDMTA conference. A recording of the piece and the manuscript are sent to the MTNA with the possibility of the composer being named MTNA Distinguished Composer of the Year and given a monetary award.
